Domino’s Pizza partners with Albany Fire Department to promote fire safety

Albany Domino’s Pizza and the National Fire Protection Association are teaming up with the Albany Fire Department to promote fire prevention during Fire Prevention Week, October 9 - 15. From Oct. 9 - 15, anyone who orders a Domino’s pizza may be surprised at the door when their pizza arrives aboard a fire engine. If all the smoke alarms in the home are working, the pizza is free. If a smoke alarm is not working, the firefighters will leave the home with a fully functioning alarm.

“Fire safety is vitally important,” said Troy Hamilton, owner of Domino’s Pizza in Albany. “We are thrilled to work with the NFPA and the fire department on a program to promote the safety of our friends and neighbors and to reward those who make fire safety a priority.”

“Fire Prevention Week is a great reminder that you need to test your smoke alarms to see if they are working. We encourage everyone to test their smoke alarms once a month, since working smoke alarms double your chances of getting out of a fire.” said Deputy Fire Marshal Wanda Omdahl of the Albany Fire Department. “Working smoke alarms save lives, but many people forget to test them regularly.

On the grow: Corvallis-based Yogurt Extreme plans Albany, South Eugene stores

Yogurt Extreme of Corvallis plans to add two more western Oregon stores before the summer is over. The local company founded by two sisters offers self-serve yogurt and toppings - from candy to fruit - sold by the ounce.

The local frozen yogurt chain plans to add a second Eugene location in Woodfield Station off Willamette and 29th anchored by Market of Choice, next to the Subway and across the parking lot from a new Sherwin Williams paint store in the space formerly occupied by Hollywood Video.

The other Eugene location is upstairs next to the Duck Store on 13th just west of the University of Oregon campus.

The company also plans its first Albany location off Santiam Highway next to the Fred Meyer store.

The new locations are expected to open in mid-August.

Yogurt Extreme has two locations in Corvallis: one on Monroe Street near the Oregon State University campus, and another next to the Corvallis Market of Choice grocery store at Circle and 9th.
