Dog on death row stolen from pet shelter

Dog on death row stolen from pet shelter

Someone stole a dog being held at a pet hotel pending the outcome of his owner's appeals of a city council-imposed death sentence for the dog, which has bitten three people.

Someone broke a window at the Albany Pet Hotel and stole Blue the dog in the middle of the night late Sunday or early Monday, his owner told KVAL News.

Blue bit a little boy in the fall of 2010 as the boy reached into the dog's bowl of food, the third time the dog had attacked a person.

The Albany City Council supported putting the dog down in a vote last December.

Since then, Blue's owner appealed the case into the court system.

Blue the dog has been in the pound since September.

His crime: biting a child.

A judge sentenced the dog to die.

Blue's owner said the dog was provoked.

A legal battle between the City of Albany and the dog's owner has attracted the attention of citizens who have signed a petition saying it's unfair that the dog sits behind bars.

Police seize animals found in abandoned trailer

Police seize animals found in abandoned trailer

SWEET HOME, Ore. - Police seized a horse, two ponies and a llama found abandoned in a small horse trailer behind a place of worship in Sweet Home on Thursday.

Officers originally responded to a complaint of an abandoned horse but found the four animals in the trailer without food or water. A neighbor reported seeing a man unhook the trailer in the parking lot behind the Kingdon Hall on Main Street a day earlier, police said.

Police found a note on the trailer indicating mechanical ptrouble, but when no one returned to pick up the animals, police decided to seize them and have the Linn Animal Rescue Organization take care of them until the investigation concluded.

Less than two hours later, police said Marie Eva Pederson contacted police to inquire about her animal. Police said she has so far been unwilling to meet with officers, however.

Anyone with any information about this case is asked to contact Officer Ryan Cummings or Detective Cyndi Pichardo at (541) 367-5181.
