Sheriff recruiting teens for search and rescue training

The Linn County Sheriff's Office is recruiting young men and women, ages 14 to 18, to join the Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team and participate in an 11 day summer training program.

This will be the 19th Search and Rescue Training Academy in Linn County and will be held June 22 through July 2.

Family Fitness Night is Friday at Liberty school

Family Fitness Night presented by the Liberty Elementary PTC is Friday, Feb. 24, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Liberty Elementary School, 2345 Liberty St. SW.

The free event features games, door prizes and snacks.

Among the events:

  • Instructor-led classes (Kids Move & Groove, Zumba, Disney Dance) led by instructors from Mid-Valley YMCA.
  • Inflatable Bounce House
  • Wii Sports game room
  • Relay races

In addition to the activities there will be healthy snack options provided.  Thirty single-day passes to the YMCA will be offered as door prizes.  There will also be a drawing for a 3-month family membership to the YMCA.

LEGO Education named Mark Gullickson of Central Elementary School in Albany the Featured Teacher for February.

Gullickson teaches fifth grade and advises LEGO robotics teams.

Habitat for Harrisburg: Celebrate a family's new home

Roy and Melissa Robin and their five boys, River, Trenten, Sef, Destin, and Hunter, will get the home of their dreams on Sunday, December 4th, when Junction City/Harrisburg/Monroe Habitat for Humanity hosts a dedication ceremony and reception from 2:30 to 4:00 pm at their new house at 501 South 6th in Harrisburg.  The community is invited to join the festivities.

Sweet Home Singing Christmas Tree Performances under the direction of David Dominy are Dec. 2, Dec. 3 and Dec. 6.
 
Performances in the Sweet Home High School Auditorium, 1641 Long St, Sweet Home, OR, are Friday, Dec. 2, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 6, at 3 p.m.

Admission is free, but donations are accepted.
 
This is an Old Fashion Christmas Choral and Holiday light show full of inspiration and fun. At intermission Santa will be there for kids to visit. There are raffles featuring a homemade quilt and a fully decorated Christmas tree, along with a variety of things donated by tree members and members of the community.
